We are currently seeking a Vector Construction Senior Scientist to join our Pipeline Technology & Enablement program in Seeds Research to support Syngenta’s genetically modified GM and genome editing GE event generation pipeline. The role is based in our Research Triangle Park RTP site in Durham, NC. 

 

Role Purpose

 

We are looking a self-motivated, and experienced Research Scientist in molecular biology related areas to join Vector Delivery team in Seeds Research R&D. In this role, you will be responsible to perform vector QC processes and generate quality data in a timely manner to deliver vector materials for GM and GE event generation pipeline.

 

Accountabilities

 

The role will be expected to:

 

  • Perform E. coli and Agrobacterium transformation with plasmid DNA using established protocols
  • Extract plasmid DNA from E coli and Agrobacterium and conduct quality control analysis like NextGen sequencing and restriction enzyme digestion
  • Perform PCR, DNA gel electrophoresis and DNA fragment purification
  • Perform sequence analysis using various public and proprietary tools
  • Ensure accurate archiving and distribution of plasmid DNA and glycerol stock to downstream team
  • Be responsible for vector information QC to ensure precise, standardized, and consistent information is documented in data system
  • Follow quality management system requirements and maintain the good records in Syngenta’s data system such as ELN
  • Being able to work independently and in a team setting to deliver exceptional results in fast-paced manner 
  • Contribute to system improvement and process optimization to increase VQC efficiency and overall capacity
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and strong troubleshooting skills to daily work
  • Communicate progress and results with functional team and projects in a timely fashion  
  • Actively collaborate within team and other functional team to develop and integrate new technologies, automation, and data analysis capability to enhance work efficiency
  • Contribute to current data process and management system enhancement and new lab information management systems development


Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field with minimum two years of working experience in molecular biology lab, or equivalent credential with minimum 8 years of working experience in molecular biology lab of agricultural biotechnology industry
  • Demonstrated working experience in molecular techniques such as plasmid DNA extraction, restriction enzyme digestion, PCR, DNA gel electrophoresis and DNA fragment purification
  • Demonstrated working experience E. coli and Agrobacterium transformation with plasmid DNA
  • Experience with NextGen sequencing sample preparation and data analysis
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills in interpreting and presenting results and data
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting ability in molecular biology lab
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in handling multi-tasks and complex projects
  • Flexibility in handling new job assignments and achieving results in a rapidly changing work environment
  • Result-oriented and great attention to details
  • Good time management skills and organizational skills
  • Effective communicator written and verbal and team player

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Experience in agricultural biotechnology industry
  • Experience working with lab information management system LIMS
