To support that challenge, the Technical Trialing Team is currently seeking a Technical Scientist II in Gilroy, CA. 

As a Technical Scientist within the Syngenta’s Floriculture Group you will: •    Lead assigned technical trialing projects related to floriculture crop culture research, new product forms testing, problem solving, product claim validation in support of new product introductions and solutions for customers •    Lead cross-functional innovation projects for Syngenta delivering technical step changes in production, procedures and new product forms that provide significant competitive business advantages  •    Support an innovation culture throughout the flowers organization and provides scientific leadership in strategically important science and technology areas Accountabilities  •    Perform technical trials to develop foundational insights into strategic and tactical plant performance metrics including but not limited to growth habit, flowering response, fertility response, temperature sensitivity, day-length sensitivity, postharvest and related characteristics •    Develop and deliver fundamental plant cultural information and assess the impact on various production protocols including traditional practices and novel chemistry to optimize plant performance across the value chain •    Plan, design, and execute assigned technical trials both internal and external to generate new crop culture information, innovations, and to validate product claims as requested by Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, Breeding, and Technical Services teams •    Provide product and cross-category solution innovation to drive next generation solutions for growers, retailers and consumers •    Plan and schedule assigned technical trials based on strategic priorities and aligned with requests from regional teams •    Maintain high scientific standards and analytical capabilities, including experimental design & reporting, standardized metrics, and code of scientific ethics •    Accountable for the collection and analysis of data generated from technical trials conducted internally or externally  •    Summarize technical trial results and write reports •    Communicate with regional Product Managers, R&D, and Technical Services on progress of technical trials, data generated, and results •    Develop technical information e.g., culture guides, articles, white papers, webinars, and other marketing collateral for Syngenta products directed toward internal and external audiences in cooperation with colleagues in Technical Services and Marketing •    Support the Technical Services team in the service of key customers escalated 2nd level response to significant business issues/risks and/or when expertise of Technical Scientist is needed •    Deliver technical training to others on best production practices, trial results, new technical learnings, and crop maintenance techniques •    Provide knowledge exchange with the other departments e.g., Sales, Technical Services, Marketing, Supply Chain, etc. to ensure the latest technical information is shared among teams •    Be an active member of the scientific community by networking e.g., research institutes, universities, scientific societies, participating in scientific conferences, and reviewing scientific literature  

Requirements •    Advanced degree in Horticulture, Floriculture, Plant Science or related field; PhD preferred •    At least 3 years of experience in a horticulture research environment •    Experience in field/greenhouse trialing, experimental design, data collection, statistical analysis and summary. •    Experience in writing and editing technical communication to diverse audiences scientific journals, trade magazines or training manuals, etc. •    Working experience in greenhouse operations, live-good production, and horticultural sciences •    Demonstrated experience with production of ornamental plants – propagation, scheduling, plant protection products, plant nutrition, etc.

Preferred Requirements •    Ability to train and translate technical information •    Excellent communication skills written/verbal •    Proficient in basic computer programs e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Power Point, etc. •    Motivation and drive for continuous crop quality improvement and efficiency •    Strong project management skills •    Great problem solving skills
