To support that challenge, the Commercial Management team is seeking a Technical Scientist. Support the Technical Team by executing assigned projects related to floriculture crop culture research, new product form testing, problem solving, product claim validation in support of new product introductions at our external trialing site at Lucas Greenhouses in Monroeville, NJ.
Accountabilities
Support the Technical Team to develop foundational insights into strategic and tactical plant performance metrics including but not limited to propagation performance, growth habit, flowering response, fertility response, temperature sensitivity, day-length sensitivity, postharvest, garden performance, and related characteristics Perform assigned technical trialing to generate information required for data-driven product launches, crop culture research, new innovations, and quality improvements, etc. Coordinate the daily and weekly operational tasks at the trial site keeping the Growing Team informed of projects Support activities related to the growing of plants for trials including propagation, transplanting, irrigation, fertilizer, plant growth regulator application, plant maintenance, etc. Manage inventory of trial supplies and inform manager when ordering in needed Work with Technical Manager to schedule and design technical trials and to ensure they are executed according to written protocols Manage, monitor, and record daily activities for technical trialing e.g., trial setup, crop culture, chemical applications, data collection, etc. Collect trial data and photos for assigned trials and organize so information can be interpreted by Technical Manager and other teams Mix and apply chemicals as needed to support the growing of plants for trials Support Technical Team with summarizing trial results and translating complex technical information into practical formats Communicate with onsite Growing Team, regional Product Managers, Breeders, and Technical Services on progress of technical trials, data generated, and results Provide knowledge exchange with the other departments e.g., Sales, Technical Services, Marketing, Supply Chain, etc. to ensure the latest technical information is shared among teams Maintain high scientific standards and analytical capabilities, including experimental design & reporting, standardized metrics, and code of scientific ethics Ensure all HSES and phytosanitary protocols are implemented, followed, and enforced Aide the Technical Team in supporting the Patent, Legal, Regulatory and Trademark activities
Requirements
Critical knowledge
- M.S. degree in Horticulture, Floriculture, Plant Science or related field preferred
- B.S. degree in Horticulture, Floriculture, Plant Science or related field required
Must be able to understand both R&D and commercial grower processes
Critical experience
At least 2 years of experience in a horticulture research environment Working experience in greenhouse operations, live-good production, and horticultural sciences
Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities
Excellent communication skills written/verbal Proficient in basic computer programs e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Power Point, etc. Motivation and drive for continuous crop quality improvement and efficiency Ability to manage time and prioritize activities Outstanding team player Very structured Highly analytical Great problem solving skills Extremely responsive
