Corteva Agriscience is looking for a research assistant that will provide support in all activities related with the process of tissue sampling across project in the center.  In addition, we are looking for a professional that will perform, assist, supervise and train part-time employees in sampling activities.  It is expected from the Research Assistant to supervise employees in the field and indoors and participate in the shifting of personnel through projects when needed.  The candidate will join a team environment with effective communication and interpersonal skills to ensure successful delivery of company goals. Responsibilities:
How will you help us grow? It matters to us, and it matters to you!

  • Provide support for all activities related to the process of tissue sampling across project in the center. Coordinate the Tissue Sampling Activities.  Ensure that all tissue sampling is collected, processed, and shipped in a timely manner. Identify possible mistakes during tagging and sampling in the field and indoor conditions.
  • Perform, assist, lead, review, verify, monitor and train part-time and regular employees in sampling activities.  Lead, review, verify and monitor employees in the field and indoor conditions.  Participate in the coordination of personnel shifting though projects when needed.  Coordinate transportation of employees between all possible locations. Determine daily workload and estimate labor need. 
  • Lead, review, verify, monitor, and give feedback to other research assistants and team leaders.  Ensure that safety procedures are always followed. Identify possible confusion sampling instructions and communicate them to the supervisors. Identify the correct type of plants that must be tagged and sampled in the field according to instructions.
  • Maintain an updated inventory of equipment and supplies. Use the correct supplies and protocol according to user and laboratories instructions.
  • Ensure that all equipment assigned to the group are properly maintained and kept in good condition. Responsible for coordinating the maintenance and calibration of all necessary equipment.
  • Identify areas of opportunity to innovate and improve sampling activities.
  • Provide verbal reports to the supervisor on a regular basis. Conduct internal research with your supervisor to improve the sampling efficiency. Verify that the work conditions are safe to all the employees, including weather conditions.
  • May require flexibility in work schedule, including weekends, second or third shift when needed.
  • May be requested to collaborate in other areas or groups at the Salinas Research Center.

Qualifications


Requirements:
What expertise have you grown? What do you bring to the table?

  • BA, MS degree in Agronomy or related fields and four years of experience.
  • Knowledge and intermedium computer skills and ability to collect data with a handheld computer or other electronic devices.
  • Ability to do physical lifting (50 lb.) and work in various ergonomic environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish required.
  • Chauffeur license is required.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work with minimum of direct supervision.
  • Great time management skills including the ability to manage a large workload.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple activities simultaneously
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural team environment.
