Note: while this position is aimed at being on campus in Johnston, Iowa, a remote candidate will be considered if required by local conditions or by the candidate's situation/preference.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with analysts to develop/maintain client applications and statistical pipelines that enable the Breeding organization to drive genetic gain.
  • Provide technical oversight to developers, analysts, and business partners along with mentoring and talent development of technical staff within the team.
  • Design solutions that ensure data integrity and quality, security, reliability, scalability and consistency across Software Engineering and the broader organization.
  • Collaborate with biostatisticians to implement and refine statistical models for use in high-throughput analytic pipelines.
  • Work with the enterprise, domain, and fellow solution architects to build and create standards across the domain and larger organization.
  • Work with other team members within an agile setting to brainstorm, troubleshoot and resolve issues related to application and platform development, and provide guidance as the solution architect to the team’s staff.

Qualifications


Requirements:
What expertise have you grown? What do you bring to the table?

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS) or other science related field 
  • At least 5+ years of relevant work experience as a Software Developer/Solution Architect.
  • Proven skill as a developer with excellent systems design capabilities along with a track record of delivering solutions on time and within budget. 
  • Ability to build and leverage cross-functional relationships with engineering teams and business partners with the aim of bringing together ideas, data and insights to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ability as an emerging strategic thinker to envision the long-term technical landscape and translate long-term vision into tactical and operational objectives.
  • Experience with object-oriented languages, windows/web development, and cloud technologies
  • Possess excellent problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply innovative and emerging technologies, programming techniques and languages.
  • Background or interest in biology, genetics, or agriculture a plus.

Required Competencies – SKILLS REQUIRED

•    Experience in software development with C#, .NET 4.0 - 6.0, WinForms, WPF (Web tech e.g., AngularJS, React,, Vue is a bonus) comfortable working in Visual Studio or VS Code for at least 5 years. 
•    Experience working with Azure cloud platform with Azure PaaS and Iaas (ASE, ADO, PowerShell, Azure CLI etc) for at least two years.  
•    Have a solid knowledge of common software design patterns and engineering practices.
•    Experience with unit testing/type mocking with XUnit, MSTest, FakeItEasy, Moq or any other framework.
•    Experience working with C/C++ in a Linux/Unix environment is desirable but not required
•    Experience working with NoSQL and/or relational databases (and the ability to write T-SQL statements) e.g., PostgreSQL, Sybase, MongoDB for at least three years. 
•    Ability to work independently and/or within groups.
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
•    Strong verbal and written communication skills
