Senior Process Control System Plant Engineer 

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Process Control System Plant Engineer, are to: 

 

  • Ensure the operability and reliability of all Site IV AI Plant (SFP) process control systems and instrumentation including operating systems, safety instrumented systems (SIS, etc.), interlocks, and low voltage electrical equipment;
  • Provide day-to-day technical troubleshooting support for all instrumentation, process control, and low voltage electrical systems within all areas of SFP to support PCS mechanics and technicians, operators,1st plant manager, plant technical manager, 2nd plant managers, Operations Specialists (OSs), plant engineers, and process engineers;
  • Coordinate with the PCS maintenance coordinator for expeditious completion of planned activities that adhere to budgetary and scheduling requirements;
  • Lead the PCS engineering aspect of all SFP capital projects up to $1M;
  • Provide direct support to PCS engineering and PCS designer;
  • Provide engineering design, implementation, commissioning, startup, and operational technical support;
  • Develop scopes, cost estimates, budgets, schedules, bids, and construction packages as well as oversee and direct installation contractors;
  • Lead multidiscipline teams on SFP medium and smaller capital and expense type projects;
  • Provide engineering design and support implementation;
  • Develop project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and Appropriation Requests (ARs) for all PCS installations;
  • Attend project meetings with personnel from all engineering disciplines and serve as the PCS owner representative of capital projects to support the work being accomplished in a timely manner and that all user requirements are fulfilled;
  • Configure and maintain the SFP distributed control system (DeltaVDCS), various Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and various safety systems (SIS, UPS, etc.);
  • Develop test procedures, coordinate testing, configure systems, document, and support maintenance on all functional safety systems (SIS, PCT I) and systems requiring regulatory compliance;
  • Lead the overall SFP PCS effort including all aspects such as specifying equipment, implementation, testing, as well as maintaining documentation;
  • Serve as a technical resource for PCS mechanics, technicians, planners, and supervisors;
  • Coordinate PCS engineering and design support;
  • Support unit operations in regard to assisting with operating procedures, performance testing, Management of Change (MOC), participation in process hazards analyses (PHAs), and continuous improvement teams (MOVE, OnePSS, etc.);
  • Participate in the development of installation and design standards for the PCS department, taking into consideration such aspects as new technology and equipment and the applicability of this technology and equipment to existing facilities.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in electrical, mechanical, or chemical engineering, or related engineering discipline plus industrial manufacturing or engineering experience in the chemical process industry as follows:
  • Bachelor of Science degree with six years of experience;
  • Master of Science degree with four years of experience;
  • Ph.D. degree with two years of experience;
  • Broad technical background, excellent knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment in order to effectively analyze, recommend, and make complex decisions;
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with abilities to influence and successfully drive teamwork;
  • Ability to lead a multi-discipline team as well as work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to manage and successfully execute projects including development and presentation of project scope cost estimating and control, budgeting, and scheduling;
  • Ability to work on numerous projects and tasks at the same time;
  • Ability to interface with all levels of organization from management to shop floor level employees;
  • Possess a thorough understanding of PCS concepts and practices;
  • A good and solid understanding of maintenance and project management;
  • Understanding of functional safety;
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills in both technical and non-technical areas;
  • Advanced computer skills;
  • Willingness to travel as required (< 25%).

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience with DeltaV DCS and Allen Bradley PLCs in use with batch and continuous processes;
  • Knowledge in process instrumentation application, checkout, startup, and maintenance;
  • Familiarity with electrical theories, engineering codes, and standards;
  • Knowledge of chemical processes and equipment;
  • Working knowledge of state and local codes and all regulatory standards (OSHA, NEC, etc.) that apply to PCS projects;
  • Experience in medium and high voltage ( 480 volts);
  • Six years of practical experience and three years of project management experience.
