Seed Technician 

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Seed Technician, are to: 

 

  • Ensure the production and equipment operation process happens safely effectively and with quality in alignment with general procedures of the work area;
  • Obtain and maintain AASCO and in some cases ISTA certifications;
  • Exhibit understand of internal procedures/protocols and support compliance with legal requirements applicable to assigned area activities;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to Bayer s Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) standards;
  • Perform preventive maintenance and inspections, troubleshooting problems associated with equipment, processes, and systems as needed;
  • Work with and support leadership s effort to continuously improve Bayer process and consistently establish the highest standards in the industry for safety, seed quality, cost efficiencies and supply reliability;
  • Perform intermediate to advance computer/Microsoft Suite program skills;
  • Mentor new employees;
  • Provide coaching and training to area trainees/peers supporting achievement and personal development;
  • Show positive attitude, team player and willingness to collaborate across all departments and business units;
  • Execute advance activities in Bayer systems (SAP and electronic networks), commonly used in production processes;
  • Observe abnormalities, know who to contact, understand the issue and potential consequences;
  • Understand seedman ship / quality / delivery of their work;
  • Result driven attitude;
  • Solve problems and manage exceptions;
  • Use SAP to support administrative procedures, documenting key readings, maintenance orders and production information;
  • Maintain and update key process documentation (QMS) including operating, start-up and shut-down procedures (process flow and instrumentation diagrams);
  • Support areas across the plant in driving the adoption of continuous improvement practices and programs (5S, Lean, Six Sigma) conducive to an organized and clean work environment;
  • Utilize 1PSS techniques to initiate process and standard work improvements;
  • Participate and prepare to lead Daily Direction Settings (DDS) meetings as needed;
  • Lead and direct others in various aspects of department functions, effectively directing resources to maximize production;
  • Schedule and direct the department activities as prioritized by the MPS scheduler and Operations Supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED, or Bachelor's degree with three years or eight years in Manufacturing and/o Agricultural operations experience;
  • Flexibility to work in sub-departments;
  • Ability to communicate with other entities (English language, speak and write);
  • Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite ( Excel, Power Point, Outlook etc.);
  • Lead a safety committee or initiative;
  • Ability to operating a forklift;
  • Ability to observe abnormalities and make a first assessment of potential consequences;
  • Coaching of employees within the team;
  • Support of project related to system /process enhancements;
  • Contribute to projects;
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations;
  • Repetitive motion and/or repetitive lifting up to 60 pounds;
  • Regularly stand, reach with hands and arms and walk.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Associates degree;
  • Ability to speak Spanish;
  • Be able to use hands/fingers to handle or feel;
  • Be able to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
