Research Specialist - Rapid Germplasm Delivery 

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Research Specialist – Rapid Germplasm Delivery, are to:

 

  • Lead and deliver specific cell biology related workflows including double haploid plant production, regeneration and single cell technologies and other relevant techniques;
  • Solve problems of routine to moderate scope requiring original thinking and deductive reasoning of diverse procedures within specialized production technologies;
  • Use specialized scientific techniques to contribute to experiments and process improvements related to cell biology technologies;
  • Follow Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), regulations and guidelines to maintain a safe work environment;
  • Manage operation of research equipment, note taking, data management with internal Information Technology (IT) systems, comply with regulated seed stewardship standards, complete and/or participate in safety inspections/training and comply with all policies and standard operating procedures;
  • Supervise, coordinate and train temporary employees. Maintain detailed records and required documentation;
  • Interact with a variety of stakeholders and supporting groups, including research, breeding and technology development;
  • Organize and report specialized reports, including analyzing and interpreting the results of experiments, production Key Product Indicators (KPIs) and lab related issues to partners and key stakeholders;
  • Take initiative in keeping current with developments in specialized areas.

Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE values. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

 

Required qualifications:

 

  • Master of Science in Cell Biology, Crop Science, Horticulture, Plant Breeding, Biology or related field of study, or Bachelor of Science with at least two years of relevant experience, or at least 10 years of relevant experience without a degree;
  • Experience in tissue culture, cell culture and continuous process improvement;
  • Outstanding organizational skills, detail oriented with the ability to balance multiple tasks and achieve deadlines;
  • Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative team-based environment;
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal; proficiency in English;
  • Strong self-direction and ability to make decisions and find solutions;
  • Experience with both standard Microsoft Office computer and software systems used in scientific data analysis, with the ability to quickly learn new software programs and tools.
