We are currently seeking a Research Associate who will work with the area IMPACT and Soy Breeding team to provide technical support on high priority programs. You will ensure the work location functions efficiently by performing a variety of duties across a range of procedures when preparing and conducting experiments to produce quality data to support Advancement decisions.
Responsibilities - What You'll Do:
Work with station employees to help set up experiments and perform advanced data analyses, works with field contacts for corn and soybean testing sites, helps prepare and sort seed packets into planting order, helps to plant, take notes and upload data using advanced technology, monitor in-field issues, harvest plots to completion, and exercise independent judgment and discretion as appropriate.
Work with team members to maintain collaborative contacts between Regional Impact Lead, Station Ops Lead, BU Tech Teams and Area Agronomists to ensure research Goals are met to expectations on an annual basis.
Work to accomplish goals set by the phenotyping lead with regards to UAS (Un-manned Aerial System) drone operation, flight plan creation, image analysis, and UAS data quality issues. Must be willing to acquire and maintain an FAA license for UAS systems.
Have a general understanding/interest in learning about the application/use of genetic marker data, applied agricultural biotechnology, statistics, use of GPS/GIS systems, and have an open mindset for learning beyond current experiences and knowledge.
Help with seed lab activities including spreadsheet manipulation, seed cleaning, sorting, inventorying, and supervision of hourly employees.
Will be an integrated member of the West Memphis Team, participate in regional safety committees and audits, administer center-wide safety programs, and comply with all center and company policies.
May be requested to help maintain appropriate inventory of chemicals and/or supplies necessary for the completion of experiments by the ME Project (Impact and Soy Research).
Operate all types of farm equipment and minimizes down time by correcting issues quickly and staying current with preventive maintenance.
Periods of extended work hours and overnight travel during planting and harvest will be required.
Qualifications - What You'll Bring:
Bachelor’s degree in agriculture with up to 2 years industry related experience.
Experience with agricultural equipment (tractors, planters, combines) and on-farm usage.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills organizational skills and computer skills/experience.
Excellent personal interaction skills and ability to work as a team member with a diverse group of people.
Must be capable to do physical lifting (up to 50lbs).
Must have a clean driving record.
