At Syngenta, we believe every employee has a role to play in safely feeding the world and taking care of our planet. To support that challenge, the Seeds Development Operations Team is currently seeking a Research Associate 2, located in Clinton, IL.

 

Role Purpose

To produce high quality seed in quantities to meet the local trialing and breeding efforts for corn and soybean. Also looking for this role to bring new ideas and ways of working to push standardization and efficiencies across all nursery activities.

 

Accountabilities

  • Function as an integral member of a team responsible for a full range of seasonal tasks including but not limited to planning, actively communicating, processing, packaging, planting, pollinating, note taking, and harvesting of breeding nurseries.
  • Supervise operational teams that include third-party contract labor and Syngenta full-time staff onsite and, in the field, to achieve desired results.
  • Train third-party contract labor and Syngenta full-time staff on operational tasks.
  • Effectively communicate with peers, supervisors, and trial owners regarding the status of projects and work activities.
  • Perform all tasks and behave in a manner compliant with and in support of all safety and stewardship related company policies and practices, including completing all required company training courses.


Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in an agricultural related discipline.
  • An understanding of plant genetics and breeding practices for corn and soy.
  • Experience in operating and maintaining agricultural machinery, specifically regarding planting and spraying operation.
  • Possess or ability to obtain Commercial Applicator’s License.
  • Comfortable leading and owning processes with ability to present updates to large audiences
  • Team focused and able to work in a matrix organization.
  • Demonstrate outstanding communication skills.
  • A valid US driver’s license with an acceptable driver’s history

 

  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

    Capable of working in high or low temperature conditions in field or greenhouse.  Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds. Capable of working long hours during time-critical periods of the growing season

 

  • WORKING CONDITIONS WHILE PERFORMING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Field, greenhouse, laboratory, office.  Domestic and international travel required with occasional overnight stays. Stays at off-season production/nursery locations may extend to two to three weeks.  Potential allergens pollen, fungal spores, chemical pesticides in the field or greenhouse.

  • Seasonal travel to off station testing locations, project meetings.  Domestic and international travel required with seasonal overnight stays.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience managing regulatory biotech field trials.
  • Understand and use of modern agronomic practices.
  • Willingness to drive change across teams.
  • Future interest in managing and developing employees.
  • Ability to use MS Office and other proprietary IT systems for data collection/analysis, tracking agronomic practices, and metric and KPI tracking.
  • Ability and motivation to learn new technologies.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
