Corteva Agriscience is searching for an innovative, energetic, and transformational Pension Consultant. The Pension Consultant is responsible for managing global pension and other post-employment benefits (OPEB) financial reporting and forecast, U.S. benefit plans government filing and compliance, financial analysis on health & welfare benefits and plan changes, supporting M&A due diligence as well as having oversight for managing  two grantor trusts. Conveys complex pension actuarial analysis with key summaries in a plain English to management and other organizations. This position will also manage the external actuarial service agreement with a third-party service provider. Coordinate output and sign off results from third-party to meet internal controls and SOX controls requirements. 

Key Responsibilities - How will you help us Grow

  • Manage third-party actuarial service to ensure timely deliveries, U.S. team and non-U.S. team, approve fees invoice, negotiate contract when due, maintain regular connection with teams throughout the year.
  • Support controllership in quarterly and annual global pension and OPEB financial reporting to meet controllership timeline for the company’s 10-Q and 10-K.
  • Support controllership by coordinating information collection to and from third party to perform quarter end and annual reporting and ERISA filings.
  • Annual plan / 5-year projection on global pension and OPEB, B/S, I/S and CF.
  • Review and approve U.S. plans experience study.
  • Assess quarterly IBNP reserve analysis and provide recommendation to management for approval.
  • Be the project manager for the principal U.S. pension plan ERISA timely compliance and plan sponsor elections: quarterly contribution requirements, minimum required contributions, Enrolled Actuary’s AFTAP certification for plan administration, plan participants Annual Funding Notice, PBGC premium filing, Form 5500, plan financial statements, and other ERISA filings as needed.
  • Coordinate with HR to prepare quarterly, or monthly if the amount is over the threshold, company payments to participants covered in the Rabbi Trust plans for reimbursement and submit annual schedule to the trustee per agreement.
  • Work with HR to support the Pension Investment Committee with strategy, planning and analysis.
  • Periodic pension update to the Board of Directors.
  • Review global retirement plan changes, when needed, financial impact to the company and obtain management approval.
  • Voting member for the company’s (i) Benefit Plans Administrative Committee, and (ii) Corteva Savings Plan Investment Committee.
  • Process trustee investment fees and benefit payments made by the company to participants covered under Remington Reimbursement Trust for reimbursement.
  • Board member for the American Benefits Council (ABC) to lobby and voice company interest on employee benefits.

Key Relationships: 

  • Internal: Human Resource, Global Finance (Controllership, Treasury, Internal Audit, Investor Relations, FP&A), and Legal.
  • External: outside third-party actuarial service / investment advisor, Legal and auditors.

Qualifications


Business Knowledge/Technical Skills – What you'll bring to the table

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or actuarial science. Pension related degrees or certifications would be nice to have.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience would be ideal.
  • Strong analytical and logical reasoning.
  • Self-motivate and prioritize in managing projects.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, organizational, analytical, project management, and communication skills.
  • Pension actuarial work experience.
  • Advanced knowledge on ERISA pension laws and regulations.
  • Ability to comply with pension accounting standards FASB ASC751/712/960 for financial disclosure.
  • Understand pension impact to the company’s balance sheet, income statements and cash flow.
  • Experience analyzing employee benefit plans, with deep understanding of the U.S. pension and OPEB.
  • Ability to convey complex ideas and technical issues clearly and concisely to management.
  • Comply with company HIPPA rules in handling plan participants data.
  • Effective cross-team communicator and collaborator.
