Role purpose

 

  • The Operations Technician Seed Health role is to assist the site manager and operations team in delivering their operational goals by providing technical assistance for all seed store/seed health activity.  This role will also implement and maintain a robust site quality program.

 

Accountabilities

 

  • Own R&D seed health testing, reporting, and organization.
  • Organize and own procedures and equipment related to the seed health tesingand necessary treatments.
  • Guarantee timely registration of materials and output of R&D trials from the seed store.
  • Involvement in activities related to the movement of biological material internationally and domestically.
  • Maintain seed quality principles of inventory, and performing tasks that include: Database management, storing, packaging, field trial layout and organization, seed processing, document management, and data collection.
  • Performing all tasks and behaving in a manner compliant with and in support of all safety related company policies and practices, including completing all required company training courses and attending local safety meetings.
  • On-call for various types of farm emergencies or unscheduled work based on business needs or weather.
  • Input and maintain data in functional data systems.
  • Effectively communicating regularly with the Department of Ag and with peers and supervisors regarding the status of projects and work activities.

Knowledge, experience & capabilities

 

Critical knowledge

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required AA or BS degree preferred Four 4 to six 6 year’s comparable experience in Plant Science, Agronomy or related field preferred

 

Critical experience.

  • Agricultural research experience or agricultural background preferred
  • Bilingual- Spanish/English

 

Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities

  • Must have a valid Driver’s License
  • Stong computer skill Office 365, Sharepoint, ect.
  • Ability to learn and use proprietary breeding management software systems
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a team and to communicate with individuals throughout the organization
  • Ability to use professional concepts and company policies and procedures to solve a wide range of difficult problems in imaginative and practical ways
  • Ability to operate seed laboratory equipment including seed conditioning machines, seed counters, and other tools necessary for agricultural research projects
  • Ability and motivation to learn new technologies

Additional information

 

  • Physical demands of the essential functions: Capable of working in high or low temperature conditions in a field, greenhouse, growth chamber, warehouse and walk-in cooler. Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds. Capable of working long hours during time-critical periods of the research cycle.
  • A minimum of two years in current position is required requirement for internal applicants only
  • Potential allergens-pollen, fungal spores, chemical pesticides in field, greenhouse or growth chamber.  Exposure to high and low temperatures, sun, rain, and dust.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
