About Us
In service of Syngenta’s organizational strategy to scale Seeds R&D to become an innovation powerhouse, we are intentionally and aggressively investing in data and analytics capabilities necessary to build a leadership position in Decision Science. The primary responsibility of the Lean Agile Portfolio Lead role will be driving Agile portfolio management practices within our Decision Science Enabling Technologies DSET portfolio and positioning lean portfolio practices with the larger R&D portfolio processes.
DSET drives agile development and implementation of a full suite of highly scalable and integrated technologies for the R&D enterprise, including IT, data, analytics, and digital technologies for data capture and automation. You will be the global portfolio voice in a team implementing lean-agile portfolio principles, process & practices including championing a culture of continuous improvement and flow of value. Practices should be in line with scaled agile best practice frameworks.
The Lean Agile Portfolio Lead oversees the effectiveness of the DSET portfolio against the business strategy and digital roadmap. The role works jointly with senior leadership on the overall strategy and objectives within the assigned portfolio.
Accountabilities
- Align the DSET with global portfolio standards and processes in alignment with SD Head of Portfolio & Transformation
- Maintain the portfolio roadmap as an effective tool to communicate the larger picture to the rest of the enterprise, and identify possible interdependencies with other workstreams
- Bring experience and ‘what good looks like’ to the portfolio team by implementing Scaled Agile best practices within DSET Portfolio with the Transformation team
- Facilitate Program Increment PI Planning, including logistics and technical preparation
- Implement best practice rhythms and cadences utilizing techniques such as Program Increments and PI planning events, Agile Release Trains, System Demos etc.
- Implement the appropriate governance to support the execution and value capture of the portfolio, drive resource optimization
- Assist with portfolio optimization by facilitating feature and capability estimation by teams and the roll-up to Epics, where necessary Coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets
- Drive the development of an aligned core team; coordinate across functional portfolio teams to drive one unified approach
- Track and mitigate critical and portfolio-wide risks and issues and escalation to the appropriate leadership; monitor overall risk profile of project portfolio
- Support in the development of lean business cases through MVPs, business outcome hypotheses, agile forecasting, and estimating
- Support teams to define OKRs and KPIs and utilize these as a mechanism for defining epics/enablers to be prioritized as part of the portfolio practices
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, Agile Lean Portfolio Management certification
- 5+ years of experience in working on large-scale, complex, global change/transformation portfolios, preferably in an agile capacity, or in other project management roles
- Ability to independently direct and execute program activities
- Strong knowledge of communication practices and techniques
- Able to deliver under pressure while working through ambiguous projects
- Successful experience in implementing multi-year Scaled Agile and Lean Portfolio Management initiatives in large enterprises
- Experience with a bi-model delivery environment i.e. both waterfall and agile methodologies, and understanding how to operate agile portfolios within this environment
- Experienced in bridging the gap between technical and business stakeholders, driving both with a relentless focus on end-customer value
- Ability to work in diverse multi-cultural, matrix corporate cultures at a global scale Ability to independently direct and execute program activities
Preferred Requirements
- Project management training or certifications
- SAFe SPC and/or Implementing SAFe certification
- Other agile or project management certifications are a plus e.g. RTE, Product Owner, Scrum Master, DevOps etc.
- Experience managing the integration of complex, data-driven products to support technical transformation
- Experience identifying risk and developing appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Passion for using data and automation to solve real-world problems
- Organized, deadline-driven multi-tasker
- Able to deliver under pressure while working through ambiguous projects
