Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Technician 

 

Bayer Row Crops organization is expanding its production operations team in Boone, Iowa.

 

We are currently offering a $2500 sign-on bonus for new Technician hires

that have accepted an offer to join Bayer by September 30, 2022

 

WHAT WE WILL EXPECT FROM YOU

 

As a Health, Safety and Environmental Technician, you will be a part of a dynamic team responsible for driving Health, Safety and Environment safety programs at the site, ensuring quality and alignment with applicable procedures.

 

This role will provide:

 

  • An opportunity to collaborate with employees across the site and handle basic activities in Bayer Production systems (SAP and electronic networks).

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM US

 

We offer a competitive hourly rate with overtime and the potential to work a shift schedule including some nights and weekends as required. Starting salary is based on candidate experience, education and market pay for role in the region.

WHO YOU ARE

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent with at least three years of experience in safety or manufacturing or agriculture or technical;
  • Basic knowledge of IT (Internet, Excel, PPT, Word, facilities with systems);
  • Ability to work days, nights, rotating shifts, weekends and overtime as business needs require;
  • Valid Drivers’ License, to drive a Company pool vehicle, your driving record must meet guidelines based on the company’s Risk Screening for Hiring Drivers – MVR will be reviewed aspart of pre-employment screening;
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 60 lbs. (a bag of seed).

 

Preferred qualifications:

 

  • Technical college diploma and/or related technical certification;
  • Experience using SAP and PLC.

 

MORE ABOUT YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Health, Safety and Environmental Technician, are to:

 

  • Display working knowledge of warehouse, plant, and field operations;
  • Promote an environment that continuously meets and improves established Bayer (HSE) Health, Safety and Environment manufacturing fundamentals;
  • Lead the site HSE Safety Program and drive employee engagement,through safety projects and new initiatives, and timely reporting ofsafety issues;
  • Promote continuous improvement of site safety culture through visibleleadership;
  • Drive employee engagement by creating internal audit opportunitieswith visible corrective action tracking;
  • Develop operational (hands-on) knowledge and functional understanding of at least three key operational areas across the warehouse, plant and field;
  • Engage as chair of at least one of the Safety committees (e.g., Offthe Job Safety);
  • Supervise less experienced Safety technicians and coach employeesacross the site on basic safety standards;
  • Ensure compliance with all hazardous work permits and siteenvironmental permits;
  • Support areas across the plant in driving the adoption of 5S practicesto maintain an environment conducive to work, aligning with the labeling and ordering of tools;
  • Utilize focused improvement (e.g., 5WHY’s) techniques to contribute to the improvement of processes and site safety program;
  • Initiate periodic communication with HSE Generalist and Corporate HSE Team to ensure alignment;
  • Help keep metrics and other relevant information current on visualboards to drive teamwork and facilitate shift change over;
  • Participate in DDS (Daily Direction Setting) meetings and followthrough on safety-related issues.
