Role Purpose: 

  •   Manage the cross Business Unit (BU) working group that is accountable for the delivery of the carbon, water and waste impacts across Syngenta's operations and supply chain. Work with the BU representatives and Group Chief Sustainability Officer to design the action agenda and provide ongoing operational and management support to ensure key initiatives and deliverables are on-track. 
  •   Lead the development of a data monitoring process to provide timely updates on progress against key indicators to BU's and the Global Leadership Team (GLT). In time, lead the development of periodic updates to the GLT on the Groups progress against key indicators and committed targets.   
  •   Lead the development of a discrete set of Group wide policies that relate to the environmental operation and supply chain targets.  



  •   Establish a working group composed of senior BU Production & Supply and Sustainability representatives and the Group Chief Sustainability Officer that will oversee the development and delivery of climate, water and waste targets across the company's operations and supply chain. 
  •   Develop the agenda of the periodic working group meetings, facilitate the meetings, capture minutes and ensure follow up of agreed actions.  
  •   Monitor progress of agreed activities and work with the BU's to ensure corrective actions are taken if deviations to the plan arise. 
  •   In partnership with the working group lead the development of the company-wide agenda for achieving the Groups climate, water and waste operation and supply chain targets. 
  •   Act as a point of expertise on topics pertaining to carbon and water and bring insights regarding global standards, industry best practices and potential risks to working group to enable effective design and delivery of initiatives that manage impact. 
  •   Monitor emerging issues and trends related to nature and climate that impact the environmental sector and agriculture industry
  •   Critically review the scientific literature and data obtained from surveys, research and digital solutions to identify insights that are relevant for Syngenta
  •   In collaboration with key stakeholders and experts, effectively translate findings and best available science-based solutions into business relevant guidelines, processes, and/or best practice which can be used to form the basis for the company's response
  •   Work with the Head of Nature & Climate to identify the response required from the company and to help shape the direction of the organization in relation to relevant issues or trends. 
  •   Act as a technical and research expert to support the Sustainability Leadership team as they represent and participate at expert forums relating to Nature & Climate, thus helping position the Company as a thought-leader in the industry
  •   Lead the development of a discrete set of group-wide policies based on the latest science-based knowledge and stakeholder expectations on the topic. Commissioning and working with external experts' and research partners to provide relevant input.  
  •   Establish data-tools & systems to enable a consistent carbon accounting approach across the BU's and reporting up to the GLT. Develop periodic updates to the GLT on progress and develop content for the Chief Sustainability Officer to provide to the Board Sustainability Committee


  •   Possess a relevant higher education degree with at least 8-10 years' of working experience in a similar industry; MBA and cross-functional experience in P&S, Commercial, R&D function would be advantageous but not mandatory. Several years' experience in sustainability topics including carbon, water and waste impacts. 
  •   Good understanding of Syngenta business, the chemical or agricultural industry and the various levers for change.
  •   Strong project management, organisational, business partnering, problem solving and analytical skills. 
  •  Hands-on experience in managing programs, projects, cultural transformations and implementing the associated changes across different geographies, and ideally across Business Units. 
  •   Ability to influence and work easily across cultures, time zones and geographies. 
  •   Ability to engage and influence senior leadership. 
  •   Ability to build relationships and navigate across a complex, matrix-based organisation.  
  •   Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to take complexity and synthesise to operational level. 
  •   Analytical process-oriented mindset while maintaining simplicity and efficiency
  •   Self-starter, highly motivated, with strong execution skills.
