Role Purpose
We are seeking a genomics scientist developing and supporting innovative and advanced bioinformatics and genomic solutions by managing and analyzing large volumes of genetic and genomic data to enable trait research and discovery. Our research aims to discover and deliver novel GM traits and gene editing targets to improve crop quality and performance by utilizing advanced functional genomics capabilities and cutting edge informatics platforms. The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary, collaborative, and result oriented team environment.
Accountabilities
Be an active member of a scientific group focusing on research and prototype development of analytics that evolve standard functional genomics towards a systems genomics approach for predictive and prescriptive trait lead discovery Participate in project teams partnering with trait scientists, crop genetic scientists, and computational biologists to develop customized and novel genomic and bioinformatics solutions to advance trait lead discovery, gene editing target identification, transgene expression and modulation Manage and analyze large scale Omics and disparate NGS data sets in both structured and unstructured formats, develop innovative approaches, processes and pipelines for genomic data analysis Interpret analysis results and communicate results at the appropriate level i.e. in technical terms to peers and as business recommendations to decision makers Involve in structural and functional genomics platforms development and drive evolution of platforms
Requirements
Ph.D 1-3 years of experience or Masters 4-7 years of experience in a computational biology background bioinformatics, genomics, molecular biology, genetics, modelling, statistics, applied mathematics, data science Domain expertise in functional genomics and genomic data analysis is a must with familiarity in one or more trait Disease Resistance, Insect Resistance, Agronomic Traits, Quality Traits and crop corn, soy areas Experience in developing advanced bioinformatics analytical approaches in an applied agricultural research setting or industry setting is a plus Direct experience analyzing multiple genomic and genetic datasets such as: multiple genomes, transcriptome, proteome, metabolome, epigenome, trait associations, allelic diversity, population structure, genetic diversity and phenotypic diversity Excellent communication and influencing skills for working with multidisciplinary teams with a diverse culture, backgrounds and experiences Demonstrated success in being a key player in a complex results-oriented research program requiring scientific creativity, innovative thinking, organization, communication & collaborative skills Proficient in programming languages e.g. Python, R, Perl Familiarity working with frameworks e.g. Spring, AngularJS, Angular 2-7-8 Familiarity working with database management system e.g. MongoDB, ORACLE, SQL Server, PostgreSQL Familiarity working with version control system e.g. Git, CVS, SVN,etc. Familiarity working with cloud computing technologies and conducting experiments on cloud--based datasets e.g. Databricks, AWS EMR, AWS S3, Docker, KubeFlow, etc. Experience in DL/ML framework will be a plus e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, Spark, scikit learn, XGBoost, etc. Familiarity working with Workflow Management System will be a plus e.g. Nextflow Individual must be authorized to work in the United States for Syngenta without work authorization sponsorship now or in the future
