Field Technician Specialist I 

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Field Technician Specialist I, are to:

 

  • Manage Station Logistics in conjunction with Station Scientists and Station Manager, organizes and coordinates tillage, planting, harvesting, irrigation, crop rotation and other field maintenance, both short and long-term, associated with research trials conducted on station to insure successful research trails;
  • Order, plan and prepare all necessary items and needs to ensure station functions are met;
  • Perform work in a safe and compliant manner;
  • Ensure that all personnel are safety trained on equipment and meet Bayer requirements for work;
  • Ensure that the station is compliant with Federal, state and local rules and regulations;
  • Perform, schedule and track equipment maintenance to insure equipment is in safe, functional working order;
  • Modify or fabricate tools and equipment for station scientists to meet trial objectives;
  • Anticipate long-term physical facility and station needs making proposals for budgeting appropriately for maintenance and modifications;
  • Assist in planning and coordinating capital purchases;
  • Be responsible for monthly facility safety inspection;
  • Assists in managing a crew/team of contract laborers and/or summer associates to accomplish daily agronomic tasks.

Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our life values. more specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

 

Required qualifications:

 

  • Non-degree with at least 10 years relative experience, or Bachelor of Science with at least 2 or more years of experience in agronomy, agricultural mechanization, or some aspect of agriculture, or Master of Science degree in agronomy, agricultural mechanization, or some aspect of agriculture;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and manage people;
  • Understanding of basic agricultural research principles;
  • Understanding and experience in local agronomic practices;
  • Understanding of local pesticide regulations and reporting proficient computer skills especially with MS Office programs;
  • Knowledge of agricultural safety rules and regulations;
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and qualify to drive Bayer company vehicles;
  • Have or be able to obtain a certified applicators license;
  • Ability to calculate, calibrate and apply pesticide applications accurately;
  • Have good organizational skills and ability to set priorities;
  • Have good interpersonal skills in dealing with external customers and internal personnel;
  • Have experience in a wide variety of regional crops, such as: corn, cotton, soybeans, peanuts, pecans, cucumbers, collards, cabbage, cantaloupe, squash, tomatoes and various other crops.
