YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Environmental Safety, are to: 

 

  • Develop and implement innovative, comprehensive strategies for environmental risk assessments leveraging expert knowledge of regulatory policies and areas where testing will support higher tiered assessments with good likelihood of acceptance;
  • Monitor/Oversee and interpret environmental toxicology studies for Environmental Science products in accordance with worldwide regulatory guidelines in conjunction with external consultants/contractors;
  • Design and strategize for higher tier environmental toxicology studies;
  • Present/defend study results to internal (project/product teams) and external customers (regulatory agency, conference, and other stakeholders);
  • Be recognized globally as a technical expert on at least one key Environmental Safety sub-discipline (e.g., entomology, avian or wildlife toxicology, endocrine effects, etc.) and addresses issues relating to this area of expertise;
  • Influence business strategy by providing expert technical and strategic input to Asset / Product Teams and departmental managers;
  • Keep current with emerging issues, science and technical advances in environmental toxicology and risk assessment;
  • Actively seek ways to bring innovation to environmental studies and assessments;
  • Lead internal and industry work groups focused on technical advances in regulatory environmental toxicology or risk assessment;
  • Have the ability leverage environmental toxicology and risk assessment data to drive improvements in the regulatory process in NA;
  • Accurately assess and forecast the time and resources needed to complete assigned studies and projects. Anticipate changes in project costs based on interpretation of current results. Alert cost center and project management of significant departures (current or anticipated) from agreed forecasts.

Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE values.  More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor of Science with at least 12 years of relevant experience in Environmental Toxicology, Risk Assessment, Biology, Ecology, Population/Effects Modeling, or related field or Master of Science with at least 10 years of experience or Ph.D. with at least six years of experience;
  • In addition to conducting multiple, complex scientific projects, lead/direct inter-departmental research projects;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Established, effective networks within a external technical community in an area related to environmental toxicology and risk assessment important to BCS products;
  • Strong knowledge in bio-statistical analysis;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment;
  • Ability to lead technical teams focused on environmental toxicology and risk assessment.
