We are seeking an innovative and collaborative data scientist to join a strong, global data science team that delivers value across Corteva’s seed, crop protection, and digital solutions.  The position will help drive development of sustainable solutions for crop protection chemistry.  The successful candidate will use data-driven methods including machine learning to guide efficient and optimized R&D processes such as chemical synthesis.

The preferred location for this position is in Indianapolis, IN, USA. A remote arrangement might also be an option for strong candidates.

Responsibilities:

•    Develop, evaluate, and apply advanced analytics including machine learning for screening and parameter optimization
•    Contribute to artificial intelligence execution strategy, including what to use and when to use it
•    Collaborate with engineering teams to scale-up compute-bound processes
•    Build chemical structure and reaction data representations for decision modeling, analytics, and artificial intelligence applications
•    Partner with computational and organic chemists to drive efficient processes such as computer aided synthesis planning 
•    Thought leadership on advanced analytics for generating diverse synthesis outcomes

Qualifications


Requirements:
What expertise have you grown? 

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Cheminformatics, Computational Chemistry, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, or related fields (or M.S. with 5 or more years of equivalent experience)


Requirements – What do you bring to the table?
•    Solid understanding of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and optimization theory
•    Proficiency in Machine Learning Operations, including training/testing/validation data set management, model versioning, and scaling
•    Expertise in Python programming, and familiarity with shell scripting
•    Proficiency in development operations, such as containerization using Docker, version control with Git, continuous integration, Linux, and Kubernetes
•    Knowledge of statistical methods such as principal component analysis, linear regression, and experiment design
•    Passion for the future of machine learning and artificial intelligence as applied to sustainable chemistry and agriculture
•    Strong desire to learn and grow, strong critical thinking skills, a can-do attitude, and agility to adapt approaches to new data and information
•    Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills and a team-oriented mindset
•    Ability to work independently and manage timelines in collaborative projects
Beyond – What will generate excitement?
•    Proficiency in distributed frameworks like Apache Spark, Dask, and Ray
•    Familiarity with relational and document-oriented database technologies, such as SQL and ElasticSearch
•    Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques such as Monte Carlo simulations, Bayesian modeling, and multivariate analysis
•    Strong portfolio of cheminformatics solutions using custom and open-source computational tools, including OpenEye, RDKit, and others
•    Experience with cheminformatics, including digital representations of reactions, synthesis routes, and chemical structures
