Role purpose The Data Analytics Specialist will be responcibe for conducting data analysis and results interpretation in order to drive efficiencies and performance optimization within Syngenta’s North American Trialing teams. Specific responcibilities will include but are not limited to: on time performance analysis, data quality analysis, testing and utilization of optimization models to “right size” the planting, note taking and harvesting team and fleet size in order to improve resource utilization.
Accountabilities • Conduct data analysis in order to report in and post season performance analysis of seed packaging, seed planting, phenotyping and yield trial harvest operations. • Conduct post yield trial planting, plot level population analysis. • Conduct post yield trial planting, location level, planting error analysis and annotate identified errors. • Conduct location level lost/discarded plot analysis.
Critical success factors & key challenges • Technical knowledge in modeling, simulation, programming, algorithm development, measuring techniques, mathematics, statistical methods, optimization, engineering methods and operational mathematics techniques. • Solid foundation in data science • Ability to think systematically about operations research as a key business strategy enabler. • Identifying opportunities to apply innovative approaches to Syngenta’s Product Development Trialing organization. • Ability to rapidly learn new problem domains. • Ability to refine complex and sometimes imprecise product development experiences into concrete problem definitions
Knowledge, experience & capabilities • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Operations Research, Engineering, Mathmatics, Statistics or equivalent. • Proven ability to communicate, influence and interact well with a large and diverse team. • Proven ability to champion new “ways of working”. • A basic understanding of agricultural practices is desirable but not required.
Critical knowledge • Optimization: Linear, Non-Linear, Discrete, Stochastic, Networks, Scheduling, etc. • Modeling: Mathematical modeling, Simulation modeling. • Decision making: Risk Analysis, Bayesian networks, Game Theory, Control Theory, Queuing. • Data analysis: Data Wrangling, Exploratory Data Analysis, Visualizations, Regression, Sensitivity Analysis. • Statistical analysis: Statistical inference, Probability Theory and Statistics, Hypothesis Testing, ANOVA, Regression, etc. • Programming: Python, R, Matlab, CPLEX, Gurobi, AMPL, GAMS or other commercial solvers. • Machine learning desirable. • The ability to structure unstructured problems and data, in order to derive conclusions and make recommendations to leadership. Critical experience • Experience applying mathematical modeling, optimization and simulation to solve real-world problems. • Experience with statistical methods applied to large data files. Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities • Self-driven with a passion for solving complex problems. • Basic project management skills. • Stakeholder engagement and change management skills. • Effective interpersonal and visual communication skills. • Interest in applying operations research to agriculture in order to meet global food challenges.

Additional information • A minimum of two years in current position is required for internal • All applicants must be eligible to work in the US.
Working Conditions/ Physical Demands Physical demands of the essential functions; Capable of working in high or low temperature conditions in field. Capable of working for extended periods from a desktop setting. Capable of working long hours during critical periods of the growing season.
Working conditions while performing essential function Some field, majority office setting.
Travel: Seasonal travel to off station testing locations, project meetings. Domestic travel required with overnight stays.
