The Characterization Sciences Center in Crop Protection Discovery & Development R&D is seeking a Bioanalytical Scientist to join our team to support activity optimization, measure mobility and metabolism of crop protection pipeline molecules. 

A successful candidate will have strong experimental background in conducting activity translation assays in plants or other organisms and have a broad understanding of plant physiology and metabolism. The position requires the candidate to demonstrate ability to design and execute experiments to understand challenges similar to ADME studies using high resolution mass spectrometry. The candidate is expected with collaborate across the Crop Protection Discovery & Development R&D community and provide leadership to project teams in helping them with understanding properties of actives/leads.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership in project design and planning activities & collaborates heavily with chemistry, biology and formulation project teams.
  • Performs biological assays which involves application of agrochemicals on plants, sampling of plant material and preparation of samples amicable for downstream data acquisition and data analysis.
  • Performs in-vitro assays in plate-based format and develops novel methods for extracting and measuring agrochemicals in plant tissue. 
  • Uses high resolution HPLC-MS to measure agrochemicals and deduce structure of their metabolites (metabolite ID).  Ability to correlate biological efficacy with changes in metabolic profiles in biochemical pathways.  
  • Generate and maintain cell culture for in vitro assays.
  • Works with greenhouse lab personnel to maintain and coordinate plant and sample transfer.
  • Responsible for identifying gaps and solutions in capability and resources to improve the overall process. 

Qualifications


Requirements:
What expertise have you grown? What do you bring to the table?

  • PhD in Chemistry, biology, Plant sciences or a related field with 0-5 years of job relevant experience is required

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in developing and/or performing ADME type biological assays.
  • Experience in working with plants for biological assays.
  • Experience of working with high resolution LC-MS instruments.
  • Experience in working independently driving projects and collaborating with a team composed of diverse expertise.
  • Ability to build effective relationships and network with colleagues across the site and the group.
  • Provide leadership in safety by setting the example to satisfy all safety and quality requirements.
  • Independently seeks and identifies project opportunities - analytical solutions to business challenges.
  • Practical knowledge of statistical data analysis.
  • Good verbal and written skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills including strong collaboration.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects at the same time (multitasking).
